Vyacheslav Mikhailov is a famous Russian artist, based in St. Petersburg, master of texture. Member of the Union of Artists since 1979. Member of the National Association of Artists of Italy “ITALART” since 1993. Honored Artist of Russia since 1999. The participant of more than 300 exhibitions, including 70 personal, in Russia and abroad.
Artist was born in 1945 in the Stavropol region, in the village Arzgir, remote from the railway. Three times Mikhailov failed to enter the art school of Rostov-on-Don. The written refusal of the school to “no longer worry because of the total lack of talent,” of course, sounded insulting, which served as a kind of challenge to the young man. At the age of 26, after serving in the army, Mikhailov dared to enter the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after Repin. Daring successfully, graduating from college in painting class in the workshop of Professor Yevsey Moiseenko. In 1979, Mikhailov finishes his postgraduate studies, also in the Moiseenko workshop.
The canons of academic education did not quite satisfy the artist. In the late 1970s, graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts Vyacheslav Mikhailov and Valery Lukka, together with the artist Felix Volosenkov, declared themselves as a creative group seeking to find new means of expression. To create the necessary artistic effect, they began to use embossed colorful layers.
Thus, the artists disowned the well-known and respected pictorial tradition, trying to bring their works to life as close as possible and turn them into something organic. However, their work was not deprived of literature and references to eternal mythological images; but the first role was assigned to physiology of texture. All three innovators canonized art critics and admirers, dubbed the group Three Heroes.
Today Vyacheslav Mikhailov is one of the most famous Petersburg artists. The author was lucky to find his expressive language that makes the work recognizable. In his paintings the form is interesting along with the semantics. Mikhailov works in series, for a long time interpreting this or that topic. The artist admits that memory, a feeling of being included in a world where there is not only today, but also the past is important to him. His heavy levkas canvases really preserve the memory of the past, forcing people to think and feel.
